Crusty Eyes

DS 2.3 has crusty eyes. It looks like sleep stuck to the bottom of his eyelashes. We have tried everything we can think of to get it off but it just doesn't go. They are never gunky just crusty.

Should I get him checked out at the doctors incase its an infection or is it just normal?

could be conjuntivitis which is extremely contagious. take him to the docs. In the meantime to clean his eyes use sterile water( boiled water that has cooled) and cotton wool, a different piece for each eye to stop cross contamination. My DD had crusty eyes cos she had blocked tear ducts, and my DS used to get it with his hayfever, so it could have lots of causes.

He has had it for a while so I don't think it's anything contagious or we would all have it.

I'll try the sterile water after he has finished in the bath, but I don't think it will shift it.

Thank you.

Conjuctivitis can be viral or bacterial and isn't neccessarily contagious as it depends on the cause. Can also be from an allergy. One of my babies had repeated bouts on and off for months without finding a cause. There are eyedrops and ointments available over the counter of varying strengths, think brolene is quite mild and chloraphenicol (sp) is stronger. Could you take your child to the pharmacist and ask their opinion, they should be able to advise what is suitable for age and will also say if you need to take them to the doctor. I am a big believer in asking pharmacists first, probably because it can take days to get a GP appointment.
