NHS direct not taking non urgent calls, this is the 4th night when she has coughed so much that she has thrown up, any suggestions as to what to give her.

DD was doing this, only threw up for two nights though. Doctor told us this is common as the constant coughing can cause a gag reflex or their stomachs just become full of mucus or phlegm,

We just kept giving her cough medicine as the doctor said anti biotics would have no effect.

Apparantly almost half of dds school have had this

Hope she gets better

DS is doing this at the moment too. Keeping the air moist seems to help - we have a humidifier but I think a bowl of water on the radiator will do the same job.

Thanks, will have to grin and bear it I guess, though she seems to have stopped sleeping in her room now.

try getting her to sleep sitting up in arm chair/propped up in bed, works with DD, but we also have to keep on at her to blow her nose not keep sniffing!

honey and lemon really worked with ds. When they wake coughing you can keep giving tiny sips - unlike cough mixture - it helps sooth the back of the throat and stop the tickling - I tried it too - and it does work!

Also second the sleeping as upright as possible, and sitting up as soon as the coughing starts.

Hope she is better soon.
