Anything I can do for DS's earache other than Calpol?

He's quite distressed about it, but it's just earache so nothing an out-of-hours doctor could do. He does seem a bit brighter as the Calpol's kicking in, admittedly. Placebo effects more than welcome.

Ds had earchae last night and screamed for an hour (mil was babysitting whilst I took dd to ballet and she couldn't find the Calpol)

Within 10 mins of me getting back and giving Calpol he was fine.

I also put a mulin on the radiator (soft hanky would do) to warm and he held that against his ear to help.

You can give ibuprofen too - stagger the doses so that he gets the most relief.

Thank you all. I don't think we have any child formulation ibuprofen in (there would, probably, have been better times to discover that ) but the Calpol does seem to be kicking in, and a hot cloth and a bit of snuggling on the sofa seem to be making him less miserable.

how old is he???

when my DS2 suffers (and he really does suffer), I give him calpol and nurofen and then lie him on a hot water bottle (well wrapped). it truly does help him.

psychohohohoho · 18/12/2008 00:06

oh, my DS2 is 6yrs

Nurofen/Iboprofen. Doesn't interfere with Calpol. Plus because it is an anti-inflammatory, is meant to be better for calming earache than paracetamol (Calpol).

a new dvd? i get ear infections, they are SORE. please give him a warm squeeze from me.

I give my DD1 a warm hot water bottle held up against her ear and it seems to bring huge relief. Helps her get off to sleep.

I make it very warm but not hot.
