Permanent diarrhea Help!

My DS 15 month old has had a few tummy bugs so far this winter in Sept and Oct. His tummy has not been right since - he has had diarrhea on and off since. He has had a cold / cough recently and the diarrhea came back and he's had it for a week now. He goes 2 or 3 times a day and stools are loose and smelly. I had the doctor's test a sample, and it came back negative (tested for salmonella giardia etc).
The doc mentioned he may have 'toddlers diarrhea.' Am feeling like his diarrhea may never end! He also is a bit more grumpy than usual and fussy about his food. Has anyone else experienced this?

I think I know what this is because one of mine had it and the GP explained. The gist of it was that when children get a lot of diarrhoea, the little hairs ('cilia'?) in their gut get damaged and take a while to grow back, which means they get loose stools for weeks or months afterwards. Eventually the situation resolves itself, apparently, and it certainly did with our ds, but I reckon it took 6 months or so.

My son had this also and the doctor said it was toddler diarhea and he did he had his poop tested on sevral occasion for bugs etc but nothing.
He recommended giving bananas, potatoe and carrot mash,
also an over the conter medicine called Enterol - supposed to help put the balance right in his tummy they are powders you mix in his food and they fixed him pretty quickly - he still had bouts now and then particuarly after taking antibiotics but a year on now and it had vanished - he is now a bit constipated
