'Clicky' hips. Anyone any experience?

dd2's appointment to see a specialist for 'scans and x-rays' Just wondering what to expect really. What scans will she have? Aren't x-rays enough? Do you get the results the same day or wait? And what about treatment, what are the options?

My dd had clicky hips, diagnosed the day after she was born. She wore a pavlik harness from 2wo to 13wo, and required no further treatment. She was only ever scanned, until her follow up appointment this year, as she was 13mo, and they are too big to be scanned at that age, so she was x-rayed.

The treatment ranges from nothing, i.e. just monitoring the situation, to an operation and cast.

What are the circumstances? When was it picked up?

And sorry, we got all the results on the same day.

DS had one clicky hip at birth and was booked in for an ultrasound at four weeks old. Went to the hospital, doctor quickly scanned both hips, they were both fine, went home again!

I had clicky hips from birth - both fully dislocated - my mum said they were picked up the next day and xrayed - obv no scans way back then - I had a "plastic bottom" for the 1st month, then a harness which kept my legs in the splits postition to allow the joints ot porperly form till 1 year - no porbs whatsoever now - Just be thankful they've picked it up!

I had dislocated hips when I was born, and we have a history of hip / leg / foot problems in my family, so all of my children have been checked.

DD (most recent), had xray and scan. They just did a small amount of manipulation and measured angles, and said "all fine" immediately.

she is 18 months now and is toddling thats how it was picked up. two health vistors have voiced concern about the way she walks she drags one leg behind her rather than walking on it iyswim?

my doctor disagrees and says there is nothing wrong but he renowned for pooing pooing concerns of parents (and is not a great doctor tbh) so the hv i saw last insisted that dd2 be sent for scans and xrays because she thinks it is 'more than likely' that dd2 has a clicky hip.

i am thankfull that it has been picked up on but i am concerned about treatments as she is very determined and active and hates being restrained in anyway, i am thinking it might be better to wait for treatment untill she is a bit older and understands why she has to be restrained but obv i will discuss what would be best for her with the specialist if it shows that there is anything wrong.

When does she have her appointment? Fingers crossed no treatment will be necessarily.

her appointment is just after xmas the 4th of jan. It hasn't been picked up because I don't have a HV atm. Our NHS dept is v understaffed and mine left and hasn't been replaced yet . I wasn't even aware that she had left. We had no letters or anything.

Luckily for us there was a children's nurse at a party we took her to who took us to one side and explained that we should get her seen to. Up untill that point we had thought that she was just learning to walk properly and that is why she was doing it.

She hasn't had any health checks since she was 4.5 months old when she had her 3 month check.

The HV I seen at the baby clinic was lovely and has said that while she doesn't have time to do home visits for us she will see dd2 anytime we want and complete her checks in the clinic for us.

Hopefully it'll be nothing. I know there is quite a wide spectrum of severity, and my dd was borderline for treatment. They told me at Alder Hey that out of every 35 babies referred, only 1 requires corrective treatment.

SSBS - any news?
