He is 6 and has a tickly cough which kept us both up all of last night and is still going strong today.

The gp gave me sudafed which did work at first but is now having no effect at all.

We shower Karvol all over the pillow at night and give Tixilyx - the night time one. It seems to work, sort of (anyway, allows them to get off to sleep and then I find they are less likely to cough when they are in deep sleep).

I know you are not supposed to suppress a productive cough, but it is awful at night when they are constantly coughing. I make up for it by never giving them anything for the cough except drinks during the day. I reckon as long as they can cough freely all day, I am not harming them too much by suppressing the cough at night.

Have you tried honey and lemon in hot water?

Oh Karvol for a productive cough.

If the cough is dry and tickly, definitely give the dry tickly cough Tixilyx mixture at night and don't worry that you are suppressing the cough as it is not a productive one.

Thanks, I will ring my mum and ask her if she can get some tixylix night, as I might go off my head if we have another night like last night.

I don't have any honey and tbh I don't think he'd drink it. He doesn't trust me at the mo because I keep 'giving him nasty stuff', ie his anti b's.

Poor kid. Sympathy from me. I am going through similar with my 5 yo (though we had a cough free night last night so fingers crossed he is getting better).

It is just so knackering isn't it ??

He is snuggled up on the sofa now watching a dvd so he is happy enough for the moment.
