Oh f*ck...I'm having a panic that I might have given DD (3) 2 x 5ml of ibuprofen in one dose earlier today.

How bad would this be? I remember giving her two spoonfuls, and can't for the life of me remember if it was the 2.5 spoon or the 5ml one (in which case she would have had a double dose!!).

Argh! It was at about midday, so obviously too late to do anything about it now

I did something similar once for DD age 2. Was told would need to be significantly more for any harm to be done (NHS direct looked it up for me)

Don't panic!

Shouldn't cause any problems, ibuprofen overdose in children rarely if ever causes any symptoms, and certainly not at this kind of dose.

i think you need to drink the bottle to have any real problems but if she seems unwell call nhs direct

I think it is how much in a 24hour period that matters more than at one time. If it was at midday and she is fine I wouldn't worry, but would probably give paracetamol instead until noon tomorrow.

nickytinseltimes · 08/12/2008 20:51

It would be fine, because it is still below the dose for over a 24 hour period.

Also, thte doses given are very conservative. In hospital, doses are decided by weight and the doses given are based on tteny ones!

Thank you!!
