DD (4.5) seems to be going deaf? Can this be possible?

She has had a thousand ear infections, and her ears have always been her weak spot. But in recent months she has seemed a little detached, and in many ways hard to get through to.

She seems as if she isn't listening, when actually its become clear over recent days that she just isn't aware that people are talking to her. She's behind in her phonics, and clearly finds it very hard.

She had a hearing test about 2 years ago and it was fine.

COuld it be a build up of wax, or something more serious?

I would definitely take her to the GP. Hopefully it's something as simple as wax build-up, or maybe some fluid in her ears

I'd prob take her to the GP, just to set your mind at rest. However, I had numerous hearing tests as a child, as I was frequently unaware that people were talking to me. I was diagnosed as being a serious daydreamer

sounds like glue ear to me, can come and go.
I would see the GP

Thanks all. She is a Serious Daydreamer and is on a different time zone to the rest of the world, but she's just said her ear isn't working, so I think you're all right and I need to take her in tomorrow to the GP.

This is where I now do a search on Grommets and Glue Ear on Google isn't it?

Glue can be transitory, some children who have glue ear need grommets(like my DS) but other resolve, and get episodes when recovering from a cold etc. It is probably nothing to worry about, but worth getting checked

My sister was like this, had grommets put in, and has been fine since. Go to the GP and get it checked out, it will make her life easier!!

DS had glue ear, had grommets in and adenoids out. Worked a treat. Let us know how you get on.
