What age is he?

sazzerbear · 04/12/2008 23:03

What about raising the mattress head end (put a towel or something under it), this helps when they are coughing.

cheeryface · 04/12/2008 23:09

he is 9. he was coughing continuously even before he went to bed when he was sat up

aah ignore my advice as he obviously has a pillow, I thought he was younger.

juicyjolly · 04/12/2008 23:13

Maybe you should phone NHS Direct?

sazzerbear · 04/12/2008 23:14

Have you tried cough medicine?

Novacane · 04/12/2008 23:19

My Ds has been on and off like this for 4 weeks or so.
Does he feel particularly unwell?
You need to look out for his breathing- is it more rapid than usual?
Temp?

go to OOH gp if he has any of these, could signify infection.

i presume you have tried the usual paracetamol ibuprofen, i find ibuprofen stops my ds coughing sometimes.

cheeryface · 04/12/2008 23:19

no, havent got any in

he has a slight temp and the doctor said i could take some antibiotics for him 'just in case' which i did, but he has just had one dose tonight so obviously not working yet.

just worried i suppose because it sounds raspy and just hardly lets up for more than a couple of seconds

Have you got any kiddy piriton? I have an asthmatic type cough which drives me mad through lack of sleep, and sometimes anti-histamines help. Not sure if they would be contra-indicated in your ds, though, not enough medical knwledge, sorry.

Also a friend of mine swears by manuka honey for dry coughs

Dd has had this and had a chest infection which has been sorted with Amoxicillin(sp). It started to work after 3 days.
On the other hand Ds had a cough from mid August until a couple of weeks ago...apparently, there is a cough that is like whooping cough, but is not and they call it the 100 day cough...guess how long it lasts...so there is much going around atm.
