Temp 39.0+ for over 48 hours .... would you go back to doctors?

Hi all,

My DS has had a temperature of over 39.0 consistently since Monday night. Last night it peaked at 40.5 and today it peaked at 40.6.

He is vomiting because of the high temperature so no medicines are staying down. We have been sponging him down to try to get it under control but the lowest we got was 38.8.

We went to the doctors this morning and they said his glands are up and his ear looks inflammed. If it continues for another 48 hours to come back.

I'm not sure I am happy with this? My husband had to take him as I was working. Since they returned his temp is still sky high.

I'm contemplating calling the out of hours service if it continues into the night.

What do you all think? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks
Mrs OB

Go back.

Go back, or out of hours now, did he not get anti biotics. Also the under arm themometers you need to add .5 aswell so 38.5 would really be 39.

Hope you get him sorted.

I do think I should go back. But you know when you don't want to be a pain the the butt, you kind of don't do what your instinct tells you to

All the temps I gave were with an ear thermometer ......

They said they would give antibiotics if it was still the same in 48 hours .... I really don't want him to have to go through that for another 2 days.

Thanks for the quick responses.
