quick one - helping relieve chickenpox

Hello DD1 (4.5) has chickenpox and is covered with spots. She is surprisingly chirpy and eating for SCotland but is very itchy. Is there anything I can put in her bath to help? Any other remedies that have helped people? I have aqueous calamine lotion but would love any other tips. Thanks.

piriton and bathe in a bath with bicarbonate soda in it to help dry them out more quickly,,,, good luck... was here last week with a scratchy 2 yr old. If really itchy try eurax

My ds started with the spots on the friday and was a winge till about the Tuesday/ Wednesday but he is alot younger. He started to dry up prettty much the wednesday and was all scabby by the fri which he still is really but ok to go to nursery yeeee ha!

Cut the foot off an old pair of tights and fill it with porride oats, tie a knot in it and use it in the bath like a soap. Fantastically soothing.

can you use piriton on a 16 month old?

My 3 year old daughter is just recovering from chicken pox. Its everywhere at the moment. We used Piriton, and bicarb of soda too. Didn't try the oats remedy but it was recommended to us. I think its ok to give Piriton to children over one, but at that age you can only give them 2.5ml. Read the label just to check first, but I think thats right.

was gonna say oats and nothing beats cold / cool water for numbing those itchies. Either cool shower or flannels for in the night maybe?

You can use piriton from 1 year, dose is 2.5 mls.

Pharmacists will not sell it for children under 2, luckily I had some as dd1 has just recovered from chickenpox.
I am using it for dd2 (15mths) but have to admit very quietly that medised works much better for her.
After piriton, she wanted to play for ages at 3am!!!

what has also helped dd2 is calamine aqueous cream, much easier to put on a wriggling baby than the lotion and does seem to work better ime.

Definitely the porridge oats in the bath thing. We did this when dd got chicken pox while we were on holiday in the Caribbean. In spite of the heat out there, the porridge oats really did cool her down and soothe the redness and itching. It also really helped to soothe the spots on her scalp as we just poured the bathwater over her head.

I found the best cream was dd's eczema cream, calamine made her very dry

lots of baths throughout the day

Our ds wouldn't tolerate calamine lotion, but calamine aqueous cream seemed fine by him and releived the itching really well

can you put aqueous cALAmine cream on facr with chicken pox????

Eurax says is stops the itching for up to 10 hours. It worked well for my dd.

It is safe to use everywhere ,would just avoid the eyes.
