Any ideas what is wrong with my daughter?

My daughter is 2.5. She has been running high temp all day (calpoll does not seem to do anything) and just been asleep for 3 hours. She is lethargic. She keeps saying she is hot. She now says the light is hurting her eyes? Any ideas what it is and what I can do? Thanks very much

i would call NHS direct and have her seen ASAP , lethargy, temp and light aversion could be symptoms of something serious. please call them now on 0845 46 47 or your own GP if theyu have an out of hours clinic.. any rash ?

Ring NHS direct and tell them her symptoms, or and I don't want to stress you out, but is what I'd do. Straight to A+E. the symptoms you list could all point to meningitis.

Light hurting her eyes is a sign of meningitis. You do not need to have all the symptomns to have meningitis. PLease phone and do not be fobbed off.

Yes get her seen quicklym better to be safe than sorry in my view.

DS2 had these symptoms a while ago (with a high temp)

the ooh doctor (I think) asked me to get him to put his chin on his chest and see if it hurt. When I said it did he said "the ambulance will be with you in 10 minutes"

It wasn't meningitis, but the hospital were happy to see us and make sure

I was about to suggest the chin on chest test too.

Had a similar thing with my DS then age 3, turned out he didn't have it but hosp said they would sooner deal with a false alarm then something serious that has got out of hand

Hopefully she isn't posting as she has some medical attention, and she will come back tomorrow saying that the hospital gave neurofen and all was better (what happened with DS - I hadn't given neurofen due to asthma)

Hi- we did not take her to A&E as no joke we are down there about once a week with one of the kids. She has had temperature all weekend which been controlling somewhat with calpol - she is just off to doctor with my husband (triage nurse didnlt even want her to come in!) She is white as a sheet and out of sorts but hope that it is all it is - will post as soon as have diagnosis. Thanks for all the advice

It really doesn't matter how often you are there. If your child is ill out of hours that is what A&E is for.

Glad to see she is being seen by a professional. Agree about the A and E.
My sister delayed taking her little one in to the GP as she had only been there the previous week and fobbed off with "only a cold, no need for antibiotics". Ended up rushing to A and E over the weekend late at night with screaming high temp child. Really nasty ear infection. Never feel ashamed about turning up to A and E or the GPs. Illnesses can often follow on one and after another as they are more likely to pick up secondary infections or new bugs if they are a little low
