Hi - please help!

My ds is just 1 and every time he gets a cold it goes straight onto his chest. His dad has asthma and ds has ezcema which I know are linked.

We've been in hospital twice with him and they have diagnosed an inhaler. The problem is they suggest 6 puffs every hour which seems incredibly high. Anyone else experienced this?

Do what they suggest,, they are professionals and they know what they are talking about. They do mean "Until he can breathe properly" though. Not all the time.

YOu can also steam a room (kitchen or bathroom) but don't mess about trying to skimp on the inhaler.

I'm sure in this situation you're sensible to do what the docs say.

He's too little for this yet, but it might be worth looking at www.buteyko.co.uk/butyko-for-children.html.

This is supposed to be very effective in controlling asthma over the age of 3.

Sorry try www.buteyko.co.uk and search for children.

Thanks folks - it just seems a lot for such a small body to cope with!

I take it that he has it through a vent rather than striaght from the inhaler. He will need a lot of puffs because children's inahler technique is not great and he will lose some through the vent as well. So, although it seems like a lot, he won't actually be inhaling this much. The dose will be changed as he gets over this acute phase and as he gets more competent with the inhaler, so don't worry. Much better that he can breathe properly.

sorry - I meant spacer device, not vent - my brain has turned to porridge today. Hope your is getting better btw
