My ds2 is 1 week old and when i change him after a poo and wipe the cotton wool underneath sort of the back of his ballbag (scrotum??) he really cries. He had his new born check on tuesday with the gp and when she checked them bits he was fine. Checking for distention or whatever it is? He didnt cry when she prodded about. I use cream every time i change him and cant see a rash, looks abit red but then not sure exact colour should be anyway. Any ideas?

I'd get the health visitor to look at him - or even a midwife at the hospital, have they formally discharged you yet? Often you still have access to the hospital staff for some days after the birth I think. Just to set your mind at rest. He may just find it unpleasant or something but it's not something I ever experienced with ds and it would make me suspect there's some soreness there for some reason. Could just be a bit of nappy rash. DS was not really 'a bit red' under there so it could simply be that. Metanium is absolutely amazingly good nappy rash cream, if DS had a patch it cleared it up within the day!

hes been like that since birth.. do you think the gp wouldve noticed it when she was checking him? I have MW coming on sunday.. but then that is quite a while and quite a few changes

mad4, my DS has done this a few times and I wondered if I was just being a little bit too rough with him.

It could be that he just doesn't like it rather than it actually hurting him or anything. You can always call your MW or HV and see whether they think it's worth getting him checked out by the doctor.
