Nappy area thrush

D had antibiotics for nasty ear/chest infection last week and now has thrushy nappy rash. I really don't want to take him back to germ breeding ground surgery. Aren't they just going to tell me to use canesten? He has no oral thrush.

I got an anti-fungal cream to clear it up, think it was Daktacort or something. Worked a treat. Worth going back to get the right thing and plus you can then get it on prescription and it won't cost!

Can you buy this over the counter? I think DTs have thrush after a fortnight of teething and runny poos - horrible red rash with a pimply look about it?

LeakyDAISYcal · 03/12/2008 20:28

whenever my DD has thrush nappy rash i'm prescribed canesten for her, so yes.

If you have some in the house you may as well use that and save yourself a trip.

BibiJesus (love your christmas name btw ), if you go to your local pharmacy and ask to sign up to the minor ailments scheme you can get the cream over the counter, but don;t have to pay as it's covered on the NHS.

Your health visitor can also prescribe for this.
I got prescribed Daktarin initially by the HV when DD had this but eventually I had to take her to the doctor who gave me dakatcort.

The latter cleared it up a treat I recently bought more over the counter to pop on whenever I see a bit of a rash.

Can you use adult strength canesten or is it all one strength? I have half a tube here from about a fortnight ago

LeakyDAISYcal · 03/12/2008 20:38

The cream I had prescribed was 1% iirc.
