I have noticed today DS (2 yrs) has an almost completley blocked ear. The wax is coving the complete cavity so you can't see in the ear at all. I have ofletn noticed it's been a little bit waxy but not this much, his ear is often very bright red and hot, i am wondering if this could be some of the cause of his appaling sleeping and constant screaming, i think it may be causing him pain.

I am not going to stick anything in there to clean it as i know it's not advised especially the way he thrashes about.

Anyone know anything about waxy ear? Could it be cuasing him discomfort, i can imagine he can't hear bugger all out of it. Is this a dr's visit or something i can sort out at home?

Advice Please!

The wax may have become impacted and or pushing on his ear drum so it could well be causing him pain.

The usual home treatment for excessive wax is a few drops of very slightly warm olive oil but in this case I would take him to the GP who may prescribe ear drops for him.

Good luck, hope he feels better soon

Hi
Could be glue ear ? My baby has it and basically has ear infections - then once the infection has gone, a sticky/mucus-y gunk comes out of his ear. This basically means that the ear drum has perforated letting the build up drain ( perfectly normal and not dangerous ! They heal relatively quickly)
Best to get it checked with your GP just in case.
