5 year old with earache at night

Last night and tonight DS has had terrible earache. Nothing during the day. Should I take him to the docs in the morning? No other symtoms to speak of. Has anyone come across this before?

When you lie down its make the earache worse, due to pressure. Unsure of the actual reasoning why...??!!
Ds has had several ear infections the last few months that resulted in the ear drum perforating, very painful.
A trip to the dr won't hurt.
