When should I send my dd back to school? I've lost confidence now!

OK, so my dd (5yo) had a mild tummy bug. Yesterday from 11am she was feeling well, and bouncing around the house, ate her tea etc.

So this morning I sent her to school. The teacher looked worried, and said I should have kept her off 48hrs after being well. I said I thought the paperwork said 24 hrs (I must look that up in the school rules).

Anyway, it has been near enough 24 hrs, but I sent her because of what she had eaten and her general energy levels etc.

At 10am the school phoned to say my dd was unwell, crying, could you please collect her.

I felt so stupid sending her to school, when apparently she wasn't ready.

Now she's home, she has been bouncing around, playing, eaten more breakfast cereal and juice. Wants her dinner now.

She has more energy than me.

So....

Do I send her to school tomorrow, and risk the same shameful fate again,

or

send her on Monday?

BTW the teacher said this particular virus can last three weeks, she could be "up and down" for ages.

What do you think?

Keep her off till Monday if you can. She is only 5 - it won't hurt her.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/11/2008 13:19

def keep her off til Monday - she will drive you crackers I'm sure but it won't harm.

I'd keep her off if you can

School is hard work and they need to be in good form.

Health authorities advise schools to not accept children for 48 hrs, after sickness and dihorrea (sp) to avoid it spreading. If it was just a tummy bug send her when you think she's ready.

Ta. My initial reaction was to keep her off till Monday as well. But she is just so well!

Yes, seeing as the general consensus is to keep her at home, then

I will.

But I'll have to pass her to someone else tomorrow afternoon, I have a meeting at 1.30pm with my ds school. She can enjoy herself at nanna's!

At least I can't be ashamed at the school gate again tomorrow.

twoisplenty my dd1 has also had a tummy bug. SHe hasn't vomited since monday so I thought she would be ready today to go back. As I was writing the letter for her teacher she said she was feeling sick again so I didn't send her in. Am hoping she will go back tommorow though!

I suppose walking to school this morning and starting the school day was too much for her. Home makes you feel much better instantly! I feel cruel that I even sent her really. But she was fine!!

Hope your dd is well now goingfor3. Hope mine is too!
