When do you take a child with a cough to the doctors?

ds has had a cough for over a week now, it's pretty rattly and he sounds wheezy when he breathes. He's had a temperature for four nights in a row, but during the day no temperature. His off his food, just nibbling, but that's only to be expected I think, but he seems pretty ok otherwise. He's a bit whingey, but other than that running about as normal. Should I ring up this morning and see if they can see him, or will they just say it's a virus and they can't do anything for him?

I would take him now - cut of point is a week for a cough not clearing esp if rattly and wheezy

thanks for that, got an emergency appt this morning.

always best to check it out - it sounds exactly like a chest infection to me as there is a fever. Hope the docs can help x

Both mine have exactly the same thing and boy does it drag on. Finally, took them yesterday after five days of temps/chesty coughs. Turns out they have ear infections too and were given anti-b's.

DD seems a little better today, but DS still whingy and off his food. Neither of them has eaten properly for a week!

week and green stuff.

Doc says he has a chest infection poor thing. He's on the vile yellow banana flavoured antibiotics now. Hopefully that'll clear it up.

My ds hasn't eaten for days either annoyingdevil, I've just managed to persuade him to have a satsuma, but that's it so far today.

Ds is also on those foul yellow antibiotics. But the little bugger won't take them. He clamps his mouth shut and spits. It could be be a long week.

Fruit's the only thing that he's eating too

Hope your DS feels better soon.

I've resorted to the syringe annoyingdevil and wrap ds in a towel to catch the spurt of yellow goo that comes out again

Maybe they only eat fruit cos they know they need the vit c. Clever little things!

Hope your ds gets better soon too
