Can you get Chicken Pox twice??

Nobody I talk to seems 100% sure?? My DD had chicken pox badly when she was 4 months old. For the past couple of days she has been generally unwell (seemed grouchy) and I felt sickening for something. Today I notice she has a crop of spots under her arm, small spots but looking like blisters. Is this chicken pox again, or could it be something else?? Help and advice please.

yes you can.

it's a myth that you can't - very unlikely but can happen.

take her to the doctor tomorrow.

Yes you can catch it twice. My DD had CP at 2 and she got it again when she was 5 (this time she gave it to me which was my first time of CP). Isnt there a vaccine against CP now?

catweazle · 09/11/2008 15:18

Yes you can. DS2 has had it twice- worse the second time.

girlandboy · 09/11/2008 15:20

Yes you can, but usually if the first time was quite mild.

I suppose it could be something else?

Kbear · 09/11/2008 15:22

My DD has had it twice - fairly mildy both times although the first time the spots were vicious

Thanks for the quick responses everyone. The first time she had it, she was absolutely covered but bearing in mind she was only four months she was so little too. Poor thing!! I do hope she hasn't caught it again, but there are seven kids off in her class at the moment, so chances are she might have.

Someone told me the other day that piriton is good for clearing up chicken pox spots if they are really painful/inflamed but do check this with a pharmacist or gp first. I haven't tried it myself so I can't tell you if it works or not.

BionicEar · 09/11/2008 16:06

Yes you can get chicken pox more than once. I have had it 3 times but seem to be immuned now thankfully.

When my LO had chicken pox I gave her Piriton as that seemed to help with the itchy side of thing and know others who have used this and say it works.

Hope your DD feels better soon.
