stuck grommet

My ds had a grommet inserted in his left ear in october 2007 (tonsils and adanoids removed at the same time)
Anyway in july of this year we noticed that it was working its way out as we could see it right at the opening of the ear canal, iykwim.
When it still hadnt fallen out in August I took him to the doctors and doc said not to worry it will come out very soon, just chuck him in pool etc on holiday and it will dislodge.
Here we are november and its still bloody there! Doesnt seem to be bothering ds too much but surely it must be affecting his hearing? Should I take him back to docs or sit tight and it will eventually fall out?

Our ds's took months from when they were 'out' and seen in ear canal at audiology check up and being 'out' of ear canal. I wouldn't worry about it - it's not doing him any harm.
Is he likely to get new grommets put in?

Millarkie, no he wont have any more put in as his hearing is much better now.
Is so annoying when I look in his ear and its still sitting there no further forward!!
(note to self, stop looking in ds's ear)

I imagine that if the doctor can see the ear drum and the ear drum itself is healed there will not be a problem with him swimming.

I am sure that it will come out eventually. Or would your son be cooperative enough to let a doctor remove it with tweesers.
