How long does Lactulose take to work?

My GP prescribed lactulose a week ago for my 9 month DD for her constipation - she said to start on 1 ml twice a day and if this didn't work, to up it to 2 ml twice a day. We started out on the lower dose and we've been on 2 ml a day since sunday, and it really doesn't seem to have made much difference - is it too soon?

Also, anyone got any good constipation tips? We're doing the basic things like cutting out bananas, and increasing prune intake - but is there anything else we can try?

Thanks so much.

I think it simply makes the poo slippy! Never really worked for my DD. Apples are good though as they irritate the bowel wall which is what you want.

Is your DD BF or formula fed?

She's BF - I was giving her one FF at night time, but I dropped that about 2 weeks ago in an attempt to help the constipation.

I'll try apples - do you think pears would work as well?

Not sure about pears but all fruit has some effect. My doc just told me to try apples and apple juice. How about lentils? There is a nice lentil recipe for babies in the Annabel K book?
