Endless sniffing, any suggestions?

My very healthy DS age 7 is never properly ill, but constantly sniffing and a bit mucusy. He has that horrible cattarhy smell (tmi, sorry) and just sniffs and sniffs and sniffs! Plus he's always wiping nose on sleeve/hand/blanket. When he blows his nose there isn't much discharge - yet still he sniffs! It's as though he's permamently starting a cold that never develops. Seems so trivial to see GP about. Anyone got similar/found an answer?

it could be through habbit.

DD use to constantly clear her throat, took her to GP who said it was a habbit that she had. He told her to stop and she did!

Tried and failed to link to buteyko.co.uk - sorry. He may be overbreathing, especially if he's a mouth-breather. Can also lead to asthma.
