A good cream for sore bots?

PinkPussyCat · 03/11/2008 13:17

Can anyone recommend a cream for sore bottom please? Poor ds (15mo) has had D&V for the last 24 hours and his bottom is now bright red. Have been using metanium with no effect. A bit scared to try him nappy-free as yet...

TIA

oh, was going to say metanium. sorry give it time though, tis great stuff

egypt · 03/11/2008 13:39

at least use it as it will prevent it getting worse - acts as a barrier too.

littlelamb · 03/11/2008 13:40

Dreamcream from Lush is brilliant if you can get it. Have used it on ds's nappy rash before when we had a week when for some reason the Metanium (which is fab usually) just wouldn't do the trick

littlelamb · 03/11/2008 13:41

here

littlelamb · 03/11/2008 13:42

also (and I don't work for them, honest!) you'll probably be able to get a free sample size if you go in to the shop, which may be all you need, so save yourself a tenner)

I have tried lots of creams, and the best one for me is Bepanthen...works a treat! I would definitley recommend.

Nagapie · 03/11/2008 13:56

egg-white - if it is good enough for baby chickens ....

onehitwonder · 03/11/2008 13:58

2nd recommendation for Bepanthen here. If dd was sore, and we put this on at night, she was fine by morning.

PestoPyromaniacMonster · 03/11/2008 14:02

Leave nappy off.

Paint sore bottom with egg white. Allow to 'seal over'. Repeat as necessary.

It works.

RedSparklersOnHerHead · 03/11/2008 14:04

do you breastfeed?
If so, breastmilk is a fabulous healer - allow it to air dry before putting a nappy on.
Sudocrem maybe?
I've ditched all the creams since finding out about breastmilk.

PinkPussyCat · 03/11/2008 14:48

Thank you all for the replies. Littlelamb I was in Lush only yesterday! How annoying is that... Will ask next time.

No breastmilk in this house I'm afraid

Will look out for bepanthen too.

Thanks again all

I put bepanthen over the top of the metanium - tis a miracle cure!

Haribolicious · 03/11/2008 15:39

Another vote for bepanthen....I found metanium too thick to rub in and it stains terribly...Sudacream didn't do much either so bepanthen comes out top - always works a treat for DS

Bubbaluv · 04/11/2008 12:37

HAribolicius, you don't rub Metaniumin, it just sits on the surface, same with Bepanthen.

kee27 · 04/11/2008 12:44

bepanthen all they way for me to sudo did not wk for ds so has a small tibe u get free n the bounty pack and rushed out to get more as it worked for ds

ilovemyflipflops · 04/11/2008 13:05

kamillosan (chamomile cream) same cream you can use for sore nipples is great for sore bottoms

jop64 · 04/11/2008 20:44

I'll add to the vote for bepanthen

ACL · 05/11/2008 20:47

Morhulin - worked for me as a child and for my children!

Also Neals Yard Baby Barrier.

ScottishMummy · 05/11/2008 21:00

zinc and castor oil
morhulin
cannestan thrush cream from chemist counter

wintera · 05/11/2008 22:18

When my daughter was in nappies someone recommended a cream called Conotrane to us. It was by far the best of all the creams we tried. Would definitely recommend it. Available over the chemist counter.

beautifulgirls · 05/11/2008 22:26

We had this with DD#2 and got canesten HC cream on prescription from the doctor in the end when nothing else helped. Cleared it up overnight after 4 days of screaming hell from the poor lass.

weebob · 05/11/2008 22:28

Matanium BUT mix it with vasaline x

ObamasPinkPussyCat · 06/11/2008 14:26

Gosh been a little while since I checked this.. thank you all for your replies. The bepanthen seems to have helped, and he's a bit happier now!

SummerC · 07/11/2008 09:53

For future reference....there is a product called Bum Bum Balm and it is a miracle in a pot!! It is fabulous. I got mine from Canada, but you can order it online in the UK.
