Anyone got any recommendations for an effective cough medicine for a 2.5 yr old?? Ds has had a realy snotty cold and seems to have a lot of mucous/gunge in his nose throat and last night woke every hour or so to have a good cough. Have tried Tixylix cough and cold medicine - helps a bit but dosen't seem to reduce the cough much.

In one trial, honey outdid cough medicine in supressing nighttime coughs: here

Sympathy, we've got this going on too, and now I have it!

same here taliac, pelvic try lemon honey and glycerin, woork great or hills balsam in an orange flavour liquid, neither contain paracetamol so you can still use some parapead or similar for fever and aches

the lemon honey and glycerin is very good, tho soothing of the honey and glycerin on the throat is really nice, as well as the antiseptic qualities of honay and the leon gives a boost of vitamin c.

I've always found Manuka Honey a godsend for ds cough - only downside it's sooooo frigging expensive at around £5 a pot

Thanks all - I've got some manuka in the cupboard - do you just give them a spoonful or do you make it into a drink - if you add glycerine whats the proportions??

One of the carers at my daughters nursery swears by coconut oil (available from health food shops) and says it stops coughs within a blink. Worth a go!

I just give manuka on a spoon - ds loves it and is always willing to have some.
