Question about antibiotics.......

Ds, 8m months, has been prescribed penicillin to take 4 times a day. The bottle says that it should be taken an hour before a meal or on an empty stomach. I find it almost impossible to do this as he rarely has an empty stomach apart from first thing in the morning and the times that he feeds varies each day. I don't stick to a rigid time for meals. I had been giving him the antibiotic about 10-15 minutes before he 'asks' to be fed, or if I'm lucky, 30-40 minutes before a meal. Is this still ok? Why does it need to be one hour before? What would happen if I gave it later?

A bit confused and thanks for reading.

er something to do with digestion and working quicker?

I don't think it matters loads. I mean, tis preferable to follow instructions but main thing is they are taken regularly. fwiw I always put dd's ab with food cos she won't swallow them otherwise

Some Antibiotics don't work well if taken with or after food,so need to be on an empty stomach.I think the time factor isn't crucial,as long as its had a "head start"!

Thanks ejb1976 - I feel a bit silly now

Yes, lo hates the taste of his ab too and it has crossed my mind to put it in with food but thought, 'no, must do as it says on the bottle'. What am I like?

I think I'm a bit clearer on it now - thanks

A-ha! Thanks so much Sawyer64, I did wonder if this was a possibility.

I'll continue to do as I'm doing then - thanks
