tips for handling night time coughing in 3 year old

DD suffered from excema and last october started to cough when she had a cold and was given salbutamol (DH had childhood excema and has asthma). GP said too young diagnose asthma. Salbutamol helped sometimes. Only used occasionally.

dd has just had nasty chicken pox and had flu like symptoms. now recovered (no temp, snotty nose) but coughing at night. cough medicine sometimes works, salbutamol sometimes works, last night rubbing vicks on chest worked. now confused about way forward.

should i treat as asthma and start giving preventor maybe? or continue with salbutamol, or just treat as a 'cough' with medicines?

Try to keep the atmosphere humid. This worked for my ds.

wellllll have you seen GP to check there's no infection or anything?

My DD1 responds well with Medised for night-time coughing - might be worth a try.

Otherwise, it's bed-sharing and propping up at night here. We do one night on and one night off (are just in the middle of this now - tonight is DH's night - hurrah!). DD comes into double bed and is propped up on pillows. Sometimes cooler air helps - for frantic coughing, DH takes her downstairs and walks about in the cool conservatory for a bit.

We also treat as asthma too and continue with inhalers.

If she's knackered, re-instate day-time nap.

left her pump at preschool and so just a cool room and vicks for tonight. also gave her a little manuka honey ...fingers crossed
