Is there any way appendicitis (or something that causes it) can be contagious?

I don't think so, but there have been two children in the last couple of weeks taken into hospital with appendicitis - and this is from a school of about 50 pupils!

Probably just a coincidence, but I thought I would check

It is essentially an infection of the appendix I think.

Pretty sure it is not conatgious though...so I would say a fluke.

No. Not contagious at all. It seems to occur more in societies with a more refined (less fibre) diet.

Oddly enough two children from our school had this in the space of three months or so last year. It's a bigger school than you but as I understand appendicitis is rarer in children than adults - it still seemed like an large number to me! I understand why you woould want to check.
