reflux is really bad over the last 2 days not sure what to do

my ds is 5 months old hes had reflux from being born it was mild to start with then got worst the last 2 months so took him to see gp and hes been refered to hospital his appointments in december , but since yesterday hes really been being sick a lot more than normal im not sure what to do . when i took him to the gp she refered him as she said theres nothing else she as a doctor could do or give him ,he needs to see a specialist hes have gavisgon but this stoped working .
so i do to be honest feel silly phoning the gp as shes said she cant do or give him anything . what would u do please help. thanks

I really feel for you, we were very lucky and paid to see a paediatrician privately, £200.

Gaviscon worked for ds2 for a few days then stopped, he was about 16 weeks old. Paed doc gave us ENFAMIL AR formula, pharmacy only. You can just buy this over the counter. We got it on prescription for a year because it was considered a dietary need.

It is a formula with an acid neutraliser and it thickens on contact with stomach acid. It was a life saver for us.

The waiting for an appointment is dire, your child is in distress and you just feel helpless, I know I did.

The GP is right that there is only so much they can prescribe. I know a lot of other Mums were given other drugs but our paed wanted to try the formula first. It didn't stop ds2 being sick (mainly silent reflux) but it stopped him screaming as there wasn't the pain from the acid.

I honestly don't know what else to suggest. Will check back on this later.

It's either do that or film your ds screaming his head off and then go back to the docs to see if they can bump you up the referral list.

It means as well that if you try the formula and it works as it did for my ds2 then you can tell your GP or hospital that this method is working and could you have it on prescription.

I should have warned you that the tin is a tiny 400g job but that it costs at least £6!!! Hence the prescription.

I'll keep an eye on this, let me know how he gets on.

I should say it is a normal formula thickness so no faster flow teats or anything. The only thing is you have to mix it with COLD water, so you have to let your bottle of water cool (fridge it) add the formula, it doesn't want to mix so you have to roll the bottle in your hands, if you try to shake it immediately it clogs the teat with powder. Once it mixes you can shake it vigorously and then warm the milk.

ive phoned docs this morning had a big to do with receptionist who thinks she owns the doctors , she said she couldnt fit us in so i phoned up again and explained to someone else and guess what i got an appointment. u have been really helpful . at this moment i dont care how much it costs as long as it helps as u said its not nice to see them like this.hopefully doc might send us to the baby unit at local hospital and they will be able to help . will come bk l8r and let u know how it goes.x

ita not that hes really hungry cryin 4 a bottle but its causing more problems eg the pain and sickness
