is it safe to put a plaster on a toddler's thumb?

ok, am having a very bad mummy moment. i foolishly left a razor on the side of the bat hand my 2yo dd grabbed it in the bath and cut her thumb on it. she cried for a few mins, i held it up and put a dry face cloth around it and then when the bleeding was less, i put a plaster round it. she is now in bed with the plaster still on, but she is a nthumb sucker and I am worried she will suck that thumb n her sleep and she could choke or something. should i remove rthe plaster before i go to bed - she'll wake but i should be able to get her back to sleep, or should i leave it till the morning. I feel so bad about the whole thing and dh is just rubbing it in that it was my fault

I would take it off when you go to bed -- if you do it when she's deeply asleep I bet she won't even wake up.

Try not to feel bad, it's just an accident and things like that happen to all of us.

A razor cut may already have sealed itself anyway so the plaster can come off. I'm sure it looked serious, but it won't be. And yeah accidents happen - don't worry about it.

thanks for your prompt replies. as you can see, i'm having a moment!! I will go and remove it in an hour or two. it did look awful though, but then when i was more calm, i rememebr that if i cut my leg shaving, it looks like a massacre in the bath.

olivo, don't feel too bad. I did the exact same thing a few years ago and my DD cut her thumb. It's easily done

thanks for your reassurances. I've been up and taken the plaster off, she's happily chomping away on her other thumb. It still looks bad but isn't bleeding now, jsut hope she doesnt suck it in the night and start it off again. it's kind of a chunk, probably as th razor has 3 or 4 baldes within it. poor babe
