My just turned 4 year old has got 3 spots on his chin and around his mouth. Seems WAY too early to have to worry about this - is it normal?

has he eaten anything he wouldn't normally eat?

I'd take him to see the GP - it's not normal, it's probably a staph infection that's hiding inside his nose. Can be sorted out with bactroban ointmen.

compo - no he's a fussy eater so won't try anything new at the moment. They are very definitely zits rather than a rash of some sort - only 3 of them and have whiteheads (TMI)!

geekgirl - Really? Never occurred to me he might have an infection - why would an infection in his nose cause spots on his chin? (stupid emoticon)

basically, the bacteria 'live' there because it's a lovely environment for them, they get spread by snot/nose picking etc. and turn any small invisible defect in the skin, such as a tiny scratch, into a whitehead.
It's really easy to treat - I didn't know about it and poor dd2 had a spotty face for months whilst I tinkered with various children's face creams.
Bactroban comes as a nasal ointment and all I had to do was squeeze a little bit into each nostril twice a day, give the nose a rub, and after a few days her face was completely clear.
