Banana cure for verrucas - question

A day or so ago there was a thread about warts/verrucas and someone suggested banana skin. DD's had a verruca for ages and the doc had just told us that they basically ignore them these days. Having read the thread, we tried the banana cure. The thing has gone from lots of tiny pinpricks (the capillaries) to a horrible looking blackish scab type thing. I have uploaded a pic on my profile. Is this normal when you use the banana skin?

Also, her PE teacher is totally unsympathetic and made her do PE the other day despite DH writing a letter asking for her to be excused, and the fact that it is so painful that dd walks on the side of her foot. Are PE teachers usually like this? I've printed the pic and will be taking it to her teacher tomorrow - just to brighten her day, you understand!

If it's that painful don't mess about with banana skins.

I used Bazuka on DS a few years ago, and it cleared in a week - found the crispy scab - yuk.

I think there's something even more effective now, but ask the pharmacist.

Without looking at your profile, the 'horrible looking blackish scab' sounds like a classic verruca, and as it feels like walking on stones, it seems a bit mean of the teacher to make your dd do PE.

The horrible blackish scab thing is definitely how my veruccas used to look when I had them! It won't be the banana skin, it will have been going that way anyway.

If Bazuka doesn't help, take her to a chiropodist and let them deal with it. The chiropodist may take a much different view from the GP.

Ah thank you. We'd been using Bazuka for months with no perceptible effect. The doc said they don't treat them any more and it will go when it goes - could be up to 2 years!

The PE teacher was mental, I think. They were doing indoor PE in BARE FEET and she made dd do it anyway, just saying to make sure she had a plaster on next time. Utterly irresponsible and stupid. I have another issue with this teacher so am going in tomorrow. With any luck she won't know what's hit her!

With the banana skin, you need to put it on every night until it goes away, or all day as well is your DD is wearing socks and it won't be noticable.

Just cover it with duct tape too.

The black on the verucca may actually be bit of the banana fibre, it did colour my skin a bit.

duct tape..... it works wonders by starving the verucca of oxygen, if it falls off, just put a new piece on. occaisionally, scrape off the dead bit on the top and apply more tape ad nauseum until its gone.
I got rid of one I'd had for nearly 15 years, it took a few weeks of duct tape, where all other remedies have failed.

CV can I ask where your verruca was? I can't get duct tape to stick to the ball of my foot at all. I have read that the tape is the best way of getting rid of them, short of a chiropodist...

pamplemouse wrap it round your whole foot like a sock if you have to.

Yes banana's turn teh verucca black.

It is actually the flesh of the banana that has gone black overnight mostly. You can wipe it with a babywipe too which takes away some of the blackness.

Honestly 100% normal. Perserve. After a few days it will also start to look like the banana is raising out of the skin.

mine was on the middle towards the outside of the sole iyswim. you do need to replace it everytime it falls off. use a big bit as overmydeadbody says. make sure the area is clean, dry and free of debris, dry skin etc i use a calous remover to get a nice smooth area to adhere the tape to.

I tried banana skin for ages and all that happened was lots of blackness like others describe, baby wipes do help though

I showed the pic this morning and he was extremely apologetic. Nice bloke. She won't be doing PE until it's less painful. I will try duct tape if the bananas fail me!
