nephew has been diagnosed with seconday cancer of the liver

he is nine years old and has only just gotten over the last bout dh has just told me. i have spent the last hour hugging him while he cried.

he is heartbroken as am i and i cant even imgaine what sil and bil are going through

poor boy. they havent told him yet but obvioulsy they are going to have to.

any experinces of this with postive outcomes? plus how do i help dh through this? i dont think he will cope. he is understandably devasted i cant really get my head around it ad am trying to stay positive but dh is finding it difficult

I haven't any experiences to share, SheSells, but wanted to post to say that I am sending you positive vibes at this difficult time.

Does your nephew live near you - will DH be able to visit him?

So sorry Shesells, I'm afraid I have no experience just felt I needed to reply, I think just being there for dh and letting him let it all out. Thinking of you and praying for a positive outcome for your nephew.

yes he is going tommorrow. he is already talking about taking to see his fave footy team play. they went to see manu last time and stayed overnight.

i just dont know what to think or how to help him. thank you for you message x

there will be others on here who know of those organisations that specialise in organising trips for seriously unwell children (I'm sorry my internet is broken so google hasn't come up with names for me)

thanks herbie a smililar thing happened to my aunt. she had primary liver cancer as was asked if she wanted to give up fighting as it seemed hopeless. the doctors thought that chemo would prolong her life but not save her. that was three years ago and she is fine. just like your gran her liver is back to the same size.

also we have a friend who has terminal cancer. it started in her breast and spread to her bones. she was told that with new pills she would be lucky to see x mas. she is still going strong to this day. she is going to lose the fight but no time soon. this is what im am trying to tell dh. medicine has moved on so much since he lost his father. there is more that they can do now.

i dont know how dh is going to get through this if he cant stay positive. dh says that sil just feels numb and it hasnt sunk in yet. we dont know if they have discussed treatment options yet. but i know that they raised a lot of money for him last time he had this so that he could get private treatment and advise from specialists in america if he needed it. he still has some of that money left to use if he needs to. as he had mainly nhs treatment last time, with just a phonecall from america.

dh has phoned sil. nephew does know about it and was crying when he found out but being that he is onky 9 he is okay today back to fighting with his sister. he understands what it means and what could happen. dh seems more positive now and told sil that we just need to pray like last time.

they are going on saturady to discuss what the best course of treatment will be. hopefully it will be treatable. i dont know how we will all bear it if it is not

They will look after him. I have a family friend, her son has fought leukemia three times, he's clear now.

Nine years old? That's so sad, poor little chap. I'm probably teaching grannies to suck eggs here but has your family been in touch with Clic Sargent? A friend of mine does voluntary work with them and they seem like an amazing outfit.
