Hello Mums, My 9 month old baby is in an ISOFIX Maxi Cosi Cabrio and we love it. Doesn't move an inch, very secure etc. We are keeping him in it until he reaches 13kg or grows too tall.

However started to look at what we might get next. The more I read the more it appears that REAR facing is the safest up to age 4 as they do in many European country's.

We want to stay with an ISOFIX car seat as everytime my friends put their baby in the car with just the seat belt they look so wobbly and it worries me.

Can't find a rear facing ISOFIX anywhere though. IS this taking safety too far to stay rearward this late, is it safer to have ISOFIX, or safer to travel rearwards. EAK!! Help!!!

It is statistically safer in an accident to be travelling rearwards, according to studies reported on a thread on here a while ago.

However, there are other factors to consider such as will your child be happy facing away from you, and are there other issues. If they are playing with toys or have snacks, it could be harder for you to see if they are choking or sick, for example. And going backwards can induce travel sickness too.

I'm very keen on safety and would have considered rear-facing if I'd known about it, but now DS has got used to forward-facing, I don't think he'd take happily to going backwards. But if you do it from the start, it might be fine.

I'm sure someone will be able to dig up that thread for you, or try searching for it.

There are a couple of rear-facing isofix. We have the Akta Graco DuoLogic II, but we had to import it from Sweden. We chose this model because it can be secured with either isofix (my car) or by seatbelts (for DPs)

There is also a Britax Fixway that I think you can get from Incarsafety in Milton Keyens. And also the Recaro Polaric also by Incarsafety or from Babyworld. They both have websites with the seats on.

Um, me? My kids go in ordinary sorts of seats.
There were lots of threads about this a few months back.
Sort of ongoing, continuous, repetative(sp?), zealous...
