My son keeps putting his hands over his ears and saying everything is too loud?

He's 2.5 years and has been doing this for about 3 weeks.

We are wondering if his ears were blocked (we have wondered a little about his hearing in the past) and now they've cleared and everything is just seeming to be louder.

Do you think I need to get a doctor to look at them?

Has anyone experienced this?

it is possible for children to have overly sensitive hearing.
if it persists andis bothering him then get it checked out

my dd who's 3.5 complains about things being loud.she often covers her ears i just think their sensitive to certain noises.

dd is 4 and hates drills, mowers, strimmers and dryers. She gets upset if the telly or radio suddenly comes on too loud. I think she was scared of the hoover about 2.5.

I don't have any worries about her but perhaps you should speak to gp/hv if it persists and is bothering him (as pagwatch said) and, indeed, if it is bothering you.

My son has just started doing this. He is 18 months and he does it when he knows he's gonna get into trouble, or the big jets fly over our house. I think he just discovered he can control the volume. I don't think there is any reason to worry.

DS1 (also 2.5) does this sometimes. His friend who is almost same age has started doing it too. He mainly does it if someone else is shouting louder than him. So then he shouts louder.

He loves to make noise and is just asserting himself I think. The noise is fine if it is him making it .

Now this may seem weird but my dd had quite severe hearing loss due to glue ear for a couple of years. Funny thing was during the period when she was bad she used to get really freaked out by loud, sudden noises...no idea why, but might be worth getting hearing checked.

Ds is 4.7 and he has only just started doing this. I watch with interest.

Dd3 didn't grow out of it until she was about 8. School discos were a complete no-no and parties with any kind of music.

But he did cover his ears when a harley davidson went past, the other day, and he has done that before.

My DS (now 12)did this from about 2 onwards. He had quite bad glue ear - and even though it caused hearing loss it also caused bad pain with loud noises. Definitely worth getting checked out, IMO, even just for your peace of mind. He explained to me once he had grommets in (aged 5) what the pain was like. Before then, he didn't realise it wasn't supposed to hurt!

ds(1) now 6 used to be like this. He still puts his hands over his ears everytime a motor bike goes past. He used to be really bad at around aged 3 and I did take him to the doctors to get him checked out. They found he had no problems with his ears or hearing and he has slowly grown out of it.
