Just noticed my DS (18 months) squinting when watching TV

He's watching it from a distance, but he just keeps squeezing up his eyelids like he's straining to see it, he's really into the program (Dora!), so he could be concentrating, but never seen him do it before. Is it too young to get him checked at the Opticians? Anyone have any experience of eye probs in children as young as this? My eyesight is pretty bad, have had to wear glasses since 11years, but DH's is pretty much 20/20. I'm a bit worried....I'm cursing myself for all those times I've let caught him watching TV up close.

it's never too soon to have a child's vision checked if you think there may be a problem. If your local optician doesn't work with young children, then your gp may be able to refer you to a paediatric optometrist who will.

such a lot of learning is done visually that it if your child does need glasses, then the sooner they get them the better, really.

some of the glasses designed for very small children have longer legs that curve further around the ear to help keep them on.

go to gp and theyll refer you to the proper childrens eye dept at the hospital where they can really check him out properly. they'll let you know what to do.

Yup, go to GP. If there is a problem, the sooner it's corrected the better. My DS has had glasses since March this year (he's 3) due to squinting, he is happy to wear them and glasses these days are lightweight, comfortable and often quite stylish with it.
But eye problems get worse, they don't go away by themselves.

New rule in our house is have to be sat on the sofa when watching TV.

I think glasses look very, very cute on babies. But as someone who has had to wear glasses/contacts since childhood I know how they can be a bit of nuisance and hope that his eyesight is ok.
