Blue lips on 2 year old, stumped!

SMLSML · Today 15:46

Random one, for 2 weeks now my 2 year old has woken up with visibly blue lips, looks like as though she's been in a swimming pool too long... She's waking up under a duvet so nice and warm and it usually disappears within an hour. She's breathing totally normally and is her usual happy self.

Were just back from the GP who was a little stumped as all her observations were totally fine... They're looking into it but has anyone had anything similar? Bit of a medical mystery 😅

Unless shes got blue bedding or a hidden stash of blue sweets somewhere I'd be asking for a sleep study or checking her obs myself while shes sleeping. I'd be concerned about some kind of sleep apnea. Have you been referred on make sure you take photos to take with you

Not the same symptom, but at about the same age one of my dc had a cold, then developed a non-blanching rash. She was fine in herself (happy, eating, running about), but I phoned NHS Direct. After a lot of humming and harring, and being connected to one doctor, then another doctor, it was decided that if she appeared fine, she probably was fine. And sometimes children just like to frighten their parents.

Are her actual lips blue? What about tongue? Do you have a photo?

I don’t want to scare you but this is considered a medical emergency and NHS says to call 999

I wouldn’t be happy with being fobbed off my the doctor. Did you show him / her a photo?

I'd take her to A&E the next time it happens so they can actually see her with blue lips and assess her at the time. I wouldn't mess around with blue lips on a child as it can be a medical emergency.

I would take her for an immediate an&e assessment next time it happens. It could be a heart or breathing issue that hasn’t been spotted. Take a photo any time it happens.

It may be oxgen levels.
My DD had asthma (undiagnosed) and when she was about 4 her lips went blue. I thought nothing of it but a friends who was there said I should really get her checked. DD seemed fine but when we got to A&E they measured her Oxygen levels and all hell broke loose
You should get your child checked in case

I agree.
Could it be heart related ?
