Hi,
My son last year was blinking alot, I got his eyes tested and came back perfect vision so then I reduced screen time and still he blinked alot. After awhile we just noticed it went and didnt think much else of it.

The last few months hes developed a new movement of both eyes moving in a upwards side motion and his mouth stretching opening at the same time.
Some days it feels constant whilst some days you hardly notice it.
We as a family dont mention it to him or bring any attention to it and we have told other family members, friends and his teachers to also do the same.

He has spoken of it in the last week getting upset on how its bothering him now and wishing it would go and worried he will have it forever. Its absolutely breaking my heart.

I am trying to get a Drs appointment to see a professional but a routine appointment is months away.

Ive been trying to read up on it all but some stories have scared me even more and filled me with worry.
Ive come here to seek advice or similar stories.

He has had alot of change this year, new baby sister who he resented at first but absolutely adores now, we moved house and he loved his old home, he moved up a year in school, lots happened in a short amount of time.

Im trying to keep him calm and happy, get him to bed early so hes not tired, but i cant eliminate everything that excites him or makes him nervous. Which i know all these things can make tics worse.

Im scared it will get worse for him or not go and will effect his school work aswell as his friendships.

What a shame. Have you spoken to your GP yet?

My brother did this at a similar age and grew out of it 🙂

They can grow out of them or it could be Tourette’s syndrome.

tics can be triggered by numerous life events.

My DD had various tics when in Primary school - vocal and facial - but completely grew out of them by her teens.

DS9 has had all kinds of tics since the very first Covid lockdown. That was a verbal one. They come and go. They change. We’ve had verbal ones, facial ones, weird feet shuffling with eyes closed skipping ones. Current one is a very random sniff followed by a blow on his fingertips (like he’s drying nail polish?!). We don’t talk about them and they really do just come and go. They can stop for weeks then a new one appears. We haven’t visited the GP as I have also read that they’re common and normal in boys. DS is happy and healthy. And maybe just a bit quirky!
