Brace wax for sore gums

Evening all, our son had his fixed braces (traditional train tracks) fitted on Monday top and bottom. He’s been given brace wax (not strips, but ‘dots’ in a tablet style blister pack), it goes on okay but it melts off within a few hours. He already has really sore gums, particularly near his bottom front teeth, the wax came off in the night and two brackets were essentially inside his lower lip this morning.

Does anyone have any wax they advise to use during the settling stage? His mouth is very painful and achey, so he has had some painkillers today to help.

He put his mouthguard in today, but obviously that isn’t safe for sleeping.

Thanks in advanced for any advice.

When I had braces we all used baby bell wax…

I think the strips are better OP. Use it generously so it sticks to itself and doesn’t move. Don’t use small pieces. I think that’s the advice we were given so your mouth is better protected. Good luck!

Thanks, some of this arrived today, it has managed an hour so far before any moved, so fingers crossed it will work until his gums settle. It was thankfully a bit better today so he was able to go to school.

They do get used to it and their mouths toughen up!
