My 2 year old had her Flu Vaccination on Thursday last week, she was fine Friday, then Saturday she had a temperature and she was all congested, Sunday and Monday she was just tired and sad all day and then this morning she woke up at 4am and was screaming uncontrollably, nothing would console her I felt awful we literally tried everything and from Saturday-today she’s not really eaten a lot she’s had enough for me not to panic but nowhere as much as she’d normally have and she’s just temperamental and moody and I just need someone to tell me this is normal and she’ll get over it in a few days because I feel so bad for her and to be honest mama and dada are so tired and at a loss 😭 is this normal after a Flu Vaccination? 🥺

yes probably just picked up a cold.

Most likely a complete coincidence and she’s just picked up a cold. It’s v normal unfortunately for toddlers to be complete snot bags October-April.

How long was she crying inconsolably for? Did it stop?

She was kicking crying and screaming from about 4:20-5:30, she eventually stopped when my partner hugged her tightly and rocked her

Did she seem like she wasn’t really awake?

ginton · 13/10/2026 19:11

Totally normal as you’ve just given her a dose (or 4) of the flu….

I feel like she was kinda in between she was awake but she was just confused and terrified

That sounds like a night terror.

Arthurnewyorkcity · 13/10/2026 22:04

Dont feel guilty. My dd got the flu at 18 months and she was SO ill, scarily so. Temperatures of 39, only awake 3 hours a day for 10 days. It was terrifying. Better to have a minor flu for a week!

Sounds a bit like a night terror. They’re more common when children are ill.

The flu vaccine (nasal) is a live vaccine. So will potentially give symptoms of the flu.

Well. We had a flu jab, then a week later, she picked up actual flu and gave it to me (also just had my jab at that point). So so annoying. I was quite poorly with it
