My daughter who is 2 is currently unwell with her second bout of of tonsillitis in less then a month. She is really struggling. The doctor won’t give antibiotics as she said it is viral. My little one also refuses Pointblank to open her mouth the medicine and will scream and refuse. I’m really really struggling on what to do and how to make her feel better she has been in pain the whole day. How can I get some medicine down her? I feel terrible

I would now ask gp to double check not bacterial with a swab

Sometimes it can look viral at first but is actually bacterial. It might be worth you continuing to check her throat (look for white appearing etc) and take her for a second opinion if she is not improving. The doctor can also prescribe a throat numbing spray to help her to eat. Eating cold things will often help - lollies, icecreams etc. Hope she feels better soon.

They need to do a swab to rule out bacterial tonsillitis. Tesco sell rapid strep a throat swabs. I ask the doctor to use that swab and then do their one to send off to lab as well. Was she given antibiotics the first time she had it? Sometimes they don’t give a long enough course or it hasn’t cleared the infection and then it returns a week later.

My DD had this, I took her back and they swabbed, came back bacterial and said the first lot of antibiotics mostly likely didn’t clear it.

I also got the difflam throat spray for kids and it worked wonders to get her to drink water and swallow without pain.

i would take her to a pharmacy today and say it’s not improving
