Lingering post-viral cough in a 24 month old?

Two weeks ago yesterday, DS came down with a cough, laboured breathing and high temperature which lasted for a couple of days. GP said it was a virus which would clear, which it did.

However, every day since then, he’s still been coughing. It’s happening in the day, evening and a few times overnight too. It’s a dry cough, doesn’t sound as though he’s got an infection.

Is this typical or should I be a bit more concerned at this point, especially with the weather getting colder now? (If relevant, I have been asthmatic since infancy, it was rather bad in my early years.)

Could be childhood asthma, but the problem with that is they can't diagnose it until much later on, so they can only presume it might be.
This happened with my Son, the asthma spray did nothing and eventually he grew out of it.
My daughter gets coughs often, she's had this one now for around 2 weeks, chesty cough with phlegm, sometimes struggling to cough the mucus up. However, I haven't taken her to the doctors because in the past they have always said it's viral and they can't do anything. The doctor told me it's normal for kids to keep on catching the virus so it feels like they have had it for a long time, so it turns into a lingering cough that will go away eventually. Plus I have it now and lots of school kids are coughing at our school at the mo, so I do think it's viral.
