Images to Paediatrician

My Daughter came up in hives and a rash recently.

I would ideally like to send pictures of this rash to our paediatrician so he can see the reaction to her drinking cows milk.

The rash is all over her tummy and legs, but the pics also have her in a nappy.

I’m trying to work out if I’m even allowed to send him these pictures via email? He will obviously need to see some pictures, and I could crop her nappy out, but it’s hard to see the full effect when it’s close up.

What are your thoughts? Or should I just say that I’m happy to send on pics & then see what he says?

There should be a secure image portal for uploading photos and you need to confirm parental responsibility and identity usually before upload. Contact the email address or ring to report the suspected allergy and find out if photo is really needed. Shared administrative email addresses should not be used to send a photo.

You don’t need to show any faces ….just a section of her skin.

Are you having a face to face consultation anyway? For context it's sometimes better to just review images together as clinicians often have questions about how it started, what it did next etc.

Even then the photos don't necessarily add much beyond a good description from a parent/caregiver, generalist doctors are trying to pattern match to a relatively small group of conditions.

Some consultants are well set up to receive pictures but many aren't.

It's a bit different if the diagnosis under consideration is very unusual, or has highly specific characteristic skin features, or people are trying to get dermatologists involved.
