Squint surgery

My son had squint surgery on both eyes for a very large squint that he was born with . I was expecting a squint to remain . A few days after surgery his eyes look just as bad . Is there a possibility this may change or should I accept it’s a failure ? Any experiences welcome .
Thank you

I'm sure it will take a few weeks for the eyes to settle after surgery and the position they are in just now wont be the final one. Does your child need glasses too? My dd still squints a bit when her glasses are off but its corrected when she has them on (had surgery age 4ish)
