Dd is 6. Started with 3 spots around April.
advised to leave alone by gp.
got worse in the summer - probably 15-20 spots. GP still said leave and wait.

now has spread so dramatically - counted spots today and about 100.

They started on her bum cheek and have now spread across her bum, down her legs, onto her vulva.

we have just been rubbing diluted tcp on and covering the crusty ones with a plaster.

im absolutely kicking myself for not treating this when there was only a couple spots. It now feels uncontrollable.
We are going to see the gp again on Wednesday.

please someone give me some hope or advice im so gutted for DD.

We attempted to treat it. Made no difference. Dd first outbreak was may last year.

we have just had another outbreak. They say takes about 18m so hopefully we are at the end of it. But 2 of my other 4 children have also got them since. But they are no where near as bad as her.

Molludab might help. But generally it does go away on its own. Definitely see the GP again though as it sounds really awful for your DD.
My DS had it and it went away on its own but it wasn’t as widespread. If I remember correctly it can spread by being scratched which is almost impossible to avoid when it’s itchy!

It clears up incredibly fast, often after one has become irritated and inflamed. There’s a product called something like molludab- I didn’t use it, just let it clear on its own. Both kids cleared after one got really irritated and sore.

This is a close up of the spots - would you say they look infected? They seem irritated and inflamed

Molludab is horrible, used it on DS when he got it and he would cry at the sight of the bottle because it hurt him so much! It's a nasty little virus that sits in the skin but doesn't attract an immune response. What knocked it out for DS was getting hand foot and mouth. His immune system was triggered by that and it wiped out the molluscum at the same time

Rockfordpeach · 25/09/2026 21:23

Its horrible and my DS had loads. We made a real conscious effort not to touch them and all of a sudden they all cleared up really quickly. He had them for quite a few months first

ImSorryWhatDidYouSay · 25/09/2026 21:27

My daughter had it under her arm & on her chest, horrible things - Sudocrem slathered on very thickly made it go more quickly - she still has scars 10yrs later but hopefully they’ll fade over time :(

Both creams were nice and didn’t cause any irritation. Ours were under the arms and spread all over the back and arms. Horrible things! And sore when caught

Becuriousnotjudgemental1980 · 25/09/2026 21:49

Both mine had them. Starving them of air helped I used vaseline. They eventually just went away. One got infected on my sons cheek and for all you sporners on here it was epic. It burst and out came a perfect orb of crap. But joking aside I think you just have to wait them out.

CaffeinatedMum · 25/09/2026 21:51

No advice but following as my son has this. Some have just started to itch and crust, is this a normal phase of it by the sound of it? Was planning on taking him to the docs next week.

There are some research reports of treating them by painting on clear nail polish. You could pick a test spot and try on just one, as obviously you can't use it on large areas!

Hand Foot and Mouth is well known for helping clear MC up as pp have said. It brings the immune system to the right layer of skin. Also good for verrucas. But you just have to wait for it to happen and you may or may not catch it even if you hang out with kids who do have HFM!
