Swollen lymph node in toddler neck

i posted a couple of days ago about my DS (almost 2) having a swollen lymph node in his neck. I took him back to the drs today and they are referring him to a paediatrician as it hasn’t gone down in a couple of months. They checked him all over and no swollen lymph nodes anywhere else and he hasn’t had any temperatures. I can’t help but feel worried. Has anyone else been through this and it was all ok? Thank you for reading

Yes! We went through this exact situation. They did an ultrasound and it showed just normal reactive lymph nodes. It was really thorough and quick and he’s fine, still with raised nodes tho! They basically treat it as scary until they prove it isn’t, but they go super quick xx

No problem! I honestly was so scared. He had some night sweats and very pale looking skin too so I thought the worst. The pediatricans were amazing. He had a full blood work up, an ultrasound and multiple assessments just to make 100% sure. He’s fine, and some kids just have larger more reactive nodes xx

My baby had one on his head for ages, they scanned it and it was fine

Thank you! He’s not got any other symptoms so that’s good. I first took him to the Drs in June with it so you’d think he would have worsening symptoms if it was anything. Glad your son is okay 👍 😊

TIL: 40 to 60% of healthy children will get a swollen (reactive) lymph node at some point in childhood, I had no idea it was so high!

Chronic swollen lymph nodes (one or both sides) are common in little ones because the lymph nodes in their neck drain all the gunk from their mouth and tonsils - so cough/cold viruses or sore throat bacteria can cause the lymph nodes to swell and stay swollen.

If it's something more worrying (lymphoma or TB), children normally have fever, weight loss and night sweats. 99% of swollen lymph nodes are nothing to worry about.

Always best to get it checked out but the vast majority of the time, especially without any other symptoms it is nothing at all to worry about.

There's also something called a branchial cyst that forms around leftover tissue from before birth. It's benign and can turn up some years later (I had one that was removed).
