Intertrigo

My 6mo baby has intertrigo under his armpit. It's been intermittent since newborn but the last couple of weeks has gotten worse. GP prescribed Canesten HC last week but it seemed more red and angry with it so I went back on Friday. It did look a little calmer than the previous night when I did the triage form so GP said he was happy for me to continue with the Canesten and to return if no better. Today it looks even worse so I think I'm going to stop the cream until I can go back to GP on Monday. Has anyone got a recommendations on anything I can use to reduce it? It looks so sore but it doesn't actually seem to be bothering him. I feel like it needs drying out it seems constantly wet

I'd suggest either talking to a pharmacist or calling 111 before suspending a prescribed treatment or introducing anything else, if you're not comfortable waiting until Monday. Best not to canvas Mumsnet for medical advice, you don't know anyone's qualifications, including mine.

The GP advised that should it look worse over the weekend to stop and go back on Monday which is what I'll be doing. Intertrigo is a often a recurrent condition so I was just looking for suggestions of what others may or may not have found effective for flare ups moving forward before it gets to point of needing prescribed treatment - maybe I should have been clearer in my OP.
