4 year old scared to poo

I need help with my DS who is 4.9 year old. He has been fully potty trained for over a year and up until last Monday has started withholding, he has been on Movicol since last Tuesday but to no avail, he’s done 2 poos since then, very reluctantly and it seems traumatic for him honestly. It seems he had a painful poo last week and now won’t even attempt to go or to even sit on the loo. He cry’s and screams, even after lots of reassurance it won’t hurt.

Im so stressed and worried as he is due to start school on Monday, and I don’t know what to do to help him.

Has anyone been in a similar situation with their already potty trained child?

He has a doctors appointment tomorrow but I honestly don’t find them very helpful to the situation.

There’s lots of advice on the ERIC website
He’s probably scared of it hurting and could even have a little tear.
Once the dose is right the Movicol should sort him out. He could get overflow though so you’ll need to tell school.
Look at Poo goes to Pooland on you tube.
It is distressing I know
Also knees up and blowing bubbles helps.
