3 year old bruising a lot

Hi,
I have a beautiful little 3 year old girl. Lately I’ve noticed that she is covered in bruises. All small ones on her shins legs and sometimes elbows. She is very active and clumsy. Always falling. One day she fell off her bike and hurt her private part and later that night she had a bruise there.
before we went on holidays I noticed a bruise on her back that was big enough in the shape of a worm almost. It cleared up pretty fast and then on holidays I noticed a tiny one on her tummy too.
I went googling and now I am soooo scared she has leukaemia 😭😢 I suffer so bad with health anxiety myself so I’m really struggling and can’t shake the thought. I’ve been really watching her today and checking for bruises and tonight going to bed I noticed a new one again on the back of her forearm under her elbow. Has anyone experienced similar? I have a 5 year old boy too and he’s not covered in bruises and I don’t remember if he was at that age either. My partner keeps saying it’s because she keeps falling or hurting herself but I’m not convinced. I will make an appointment for the doctor to see her but it’s the weekend now and I’m going to be so worried all weekend 🥺
any advice please for a very worried mum 😢

@thefloorislavayeswhat a nasty thing to comment on a persons post who is genuinely worried for their child and looking for advice from other mums. Because you know me do you? I don’t see how being worried about my child is being selfish. That’s your own opinion. Please don’t comment back here you’re only trying to upset people. How miserable can you be

If I see a 3 year old who doesn't have bruises on their shins and elbows, I worry that they're not being let run around and play. Very normal to have bruises there. Also normal to bruise after falling off a bike.

Children have delicate skin and bruise easily. Especially if they are playing and running around as they should be. She is fine!
Please don’t project your issues onto her, that would not be fair.

Hiya - I have struggled with anxiousness around my kids' health too. It's awful isn't it. Try to google other symptoms, and see if others are present, so you're armed for your drs appt. It sounds like there aren't any, or you'd have probably noticed - children withe leukemia are quite visibly unwell. Also - my kids bruise like mad! That is quite normal and in and of itself, is not a major concern. I hope all is ok.

If your child had leukaemia there would be other symptoms beside bruising. All active 3 year old have bruises and you have said she's clumsy and falls a lot. Are you seeking help for your anxiety OP?

OstaraSpring · 21/08/2026 23:28

This could be the reason for the bruising. Worth a trip to the GP.

it was the bruising on her back and Tummy that scared me the most as I don’t know what she could have hit it off. The one on her Back was quiet big also. Yes I do try to help my anxiety I have been trying since I was 19 and I’m now 30. I’ve done it all. I do know there are other symptoms of leukaemia also. I wonder if I didn’t mention I have health anxiety would everyone be focusing in on this so much? I’m just concerned for my little girl and wanted to see did any other mums go through similar or being worried for their child and it turned out ok?

Do go to the doctor, hear what they say and push for tests if you feel it's necessary. No one will be able to fully advise you on here as we can't see your dd. My friend's son did bruise lots and now has a diagnosis of leukaemia but the first doctor wouldn't test as they said it wasn't needed. I have no idea if your dd has a serious condition or whether she is a normal 3 year old with lots of bruises (very typical for toddlers) and I'm not trying to upset you with my anecdote. Just an example of where going to the doctor was important. For what it's worth, my own dd bruises very easily and frequently but is fit and healthy.

A nursery worker at my daughters nursery once said that all playful children have bruises from their knees to their ankles.

My daughter and her friends had a bruise counting competition the other day - one had 13 bruises on one leg. My daughter and I both bruise like peaches and it seems to be particularly bad at the moment for both of us.

I wouldn't be jumping straight to the GP just yet especially if with most of the bruises there is a cause and effect - bump then bruise their later in the day. My daughter goes through periods of being clumsy usually around a growth spurt. I had her headteacher in the spring term check the first aid logs to see if there was something as miss when she had 13 head bump wrist bands in 9 weeks and in one week she had 8 incidents (at school, home and extra curriculars). Summer term - 1 head bump wrist band and a couple of bruised knees, nothing really of note.

I think for the next week or so just make a note of any bumps and go from there. My uncle had leukaemia and I'm going through health thing at the moment and looked at the symptoms. Bruises with leukaemia usually aren't connected to an incident. This is where the incident diary for a week might help. If the majority can be accounted for I would settle down the panic
