Could my child have chickenpox again, or could it be something else?

I think my 8 year old has chicken pox for the second time! What do you think? Could it be anything else?
They are itching and appearing before my eyes

Did they have a very mild case last time, and were they very young?
It is possible to get CP twice but usually only if the first dose was very mild as a baby.
It is also possible that the first case wasn’t actually CP - sometimes something like hand, foot & mouth can be mistaken for a mild case of CP.
Anyway it is hard to tell from this photo but if the spots develop into blisters yes it does look like CP. If not could be an allergy/heat rash? Are there any other symptoms like a fever?

Looks like hand foot and mouth to me, but it's a very small are to work it out from. Are the spots everywhere? Chickenpox often starts on the trunk, whereas HMF is more extremities and genitals.

Also be aware that even young children can get singles, so if they start to hurt as well as being itchy please take her to the doctors.

DD had singles at that age and I had no idea that you could get it that young.

He had cp quite badly before. The spots are on his legs arms and trunk. There's 17 so far. I've contacted the GP so just waiting now. He's got a slight temp.

How old were they when they had it?

He was 6

I've spoken to gp and she says it looks like cp but have to wait to see.

My son had chicken pox for the second time when he was 8. He had mild cp when he was 18 months. The nurse at GP office said that in her experience it is usually blonde or very fair children who present with a second dose of cp. If your ds has fair colouring then I would keep an eye out for blisters appearing.

I work with varicella-zoster virus for my job and I have never heard about an association with blonde hair. What IS known is that UK ethnic minorities catch chickenpox at a later age than white British children, but that might just be because they are much less likely to go to nursery than white British toddlers. And chickenpox shows up best on fair skin so is easiest to diagnose!

I don't think it's cp . This morning they look calmer but hurt. They remind me of hand for and mouth . They haven't blistered

My other son has a couple now. Apparently they hurt. Really odd.

CP usually take 11-14 days or so to pass between siblings IME, unless of course they were exposed at the same time.

Doesn’t look like CP then if they haven’t blistered.
Strange for both children to have the spots though!

It doesn’t look like molluscum to me - both mine had it and while they were sometimes red around the spot, they mainly look like raised bumps, almost like small skin tags.

Did you find out what it was OP? My dd3 has spots like this. Google says most likely insect bites.

My DD (9) has a few of these. I think they might be mozzie bites but because she hasn’t reacted to them they’ve stay quite neat and non-itchy.

My daughter had it 3 times. The first time she was nearly 2. She is adopted - she and her sister clearly had ut in the photos we were given running up to us meeting. But then she got it at nursery when she was 3 when everyone else came down with it. In Reception she came out in spots and I took her to the GP, who said yes, it's a third bout of chickenpox. We were both astonished. Google agrees it's unusual but not impossible.

That’s so strange as my sister is really blonde and she also got chicken pox several times as a child !

Both of my DDs had chicken pox twice. Once before they had COVID and again after they had COVID.

Well the spots are back. Really weird. 3 on his feet, one on his finger and back. Look very angry and almost like hives. Very itchy and sore. No idea what they are!
